Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan 2
The Southland Corporation-Store#20632 4627 Da Vinci Drive Stockton,CA November 30.1998
TASK 2: SOIL BORINGS/SOIL SAMPLING
Fluor Daniel GTI will drill one soil boring at the location shown on Figure 2 using a truck-mounted drill rig
equipped with 84nch-diameter hollow-stem augers. The location of the well was chosen based on
hydrocarbon and oxygenate concentrations detected in soil samples collected from previous soil borings
drilled at the site. Historical groundwater and soil analytical results are included in Attachment 2. The
boring will be drilled to approximately 20 feet below ground surface (BGS), and will provide additional
information to characterize and delineate the extent of the soil hydrocarbon plume.
Soil samples will be collected from the soil boring at 5-foot intervals to a total depth of 20 feet BGS
beginning at 5 feet BGS using a split-spoon sampler lined with 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long brass sample
tubes. The hollow-stem augers will be steam cleaned before drilling, and sampling equipment will be
cleaned between each sampling interval. Each soil sample will be screened for hydrocarbon vapors using
a photoionization detector(PID). Soils encountered during drilling will be logged using the Unified Soil
Classification System by a Fluor Daniel GTI field geologist, working under the supervision of a California
registered geologist. One sample tube from each sampling interval will be sealed with Teflon sheets,
capped, taped, labeled, and placed on ice in an insulated container.
Based on field observations, selected soil samples from the borehole will be analyzed by a State-certified
analytical laboratory for benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,xylenes(BTEX),methyl-tert-butyl ether(MTBE),
and total petroleum hydrocarbons-as-gasoline (TPH-G) by EPA methods 8020/8015 modified, and the
oxygenates:tert butanol (TBA), MTBE,di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl-tert-butyl ether(ETBE),and tert-
amyl-methyl ether(TAME) by EPA Method 8260. An estimated three soil samples will be analyzed from
the boring.
All soil generated through drilling will be placed in Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon
drums pending characterization and disposal. Water generated by steam cleaning will be temporarily
stored on site in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending characterization and disposal. All waste will be
disposed of as non-hazardous at a certified facility by a licensed hauling firm.
TASK 3: WELL CONSTRUCTION/DEVELOPMENT/GAUGING/SAMPLING
One groundwater monitoring well (MW-5)will be constructed in the boring of 2-inch diameter Schedule 40
poly-vinyl-chloride (PVC)casing with flush threads and 0.0204nch-slot well screen from 5 feet to 15 feet
BGS. Prior to installation of the well casing, hydrated bentonite chips will be placed in the borehole from
20 feet to approximately 16 feet BGS. A sand filter pack will be placed around the well screen to a
maximum height of 1 foot above the top of the screen. The well casing will be sealed with 2 feet of
hydrated bentonite pellets, followed by a neat-cement grout to grade containing a mixture of 95 pounds of
20632wkp.ftr
FLUOR DANIEL GTI
i"«1
