W
' ,•, :,', '_. -sem `'c ".
r+
GROUNDWATER SAMPLE ANALYSIS RESULTS
Elevated levels of BTEX,TPHG,and TPHD were recorded in the groundwater sample collected
from the bottom of tank pit 1 (RET?I-B-9.5'). Total lead (TL) was not detected above State
Maximum Contamination Levels (MCL's) for drinking water.
6.0 PROPOSED ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT
SOILS
To assess the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination beneath the site WaterWork
proposes to drill five soil borings in the tank and product line areas. The borings will be drilled
to a maximum of 10 feet below grade (Figure 3). Confirmation of clean soil will be verified
- by soil analysis.
All borings will be sampled at five foot intervals using a California modified spiut-spoon sampler
with brass liners. The material from one sample ring will be described and field screened with
at photoionization detector(PID)for passible volatile organic content. The second ring will be
sealed at each end with Teflon tape-and a plastic cap. The cap will be sealed with duct tape and
the sample will be preserved on ice and transported under strict chain-of-custody procedures to
a State certified laboratory.
Between sampling events, equipment will be cleaned using a three wash bucket wash system.
In this system, the rings and samplers will be scrubbed with a brush in a bucket of tag water and
detergent, then rinsed in a bucket of tap water and a final rinse of distilled water.
" Borings will be drilled using an 8 inch hollow-stem auger. No fluids will be used during drilling
activities. Following completion of drilling, bentonite will be placed in the bottom of each
boring. The boring will then be backfilled to grade with native cuttings. Should hydrocarbon
—=--------- --- --- -----
impacted soils be encountered, the boring will be bacilled-with neat cement to grace. —
One soil sample from each boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis. Samples selected
will be those exhibiting the highest PID reading. The samples collected near tank pit 1 and the
xe o9o.wr 4
