av
4
B:\CYLOPURG.pOC
S
7. Sample results of the influent-effluent to the Cyclo
Purge show 5% more TFH being exhausted than being
delivered to the cyclo Purge (vacuum stripping of the
condensate-to high a vacuum) , 1.6% benzene being
removed, 10.6% toluene being removed, 14.8% ethylbenzene
being removed and 12% xylenes being removed.
i
8. The analysis of the water sampled from the collection
bucket showed low dissolved TFH-BTEX.
J
9- A flow rate of 70 cfm was being achieved with the one
606 blower: 15 cfm from the excavation, 35 cfm from
*SWI, and 20 cfm frnm Mw5.
10. Total pounds of hydrocarbons removed dolly
rom
formation: 137 TFH, 4.26 Benzene, 9.88 Toluene, and f5.9
i Xylenes.
11. Total pound of hydrocarbons being emitted
from
Purge daily: 143.9 TFH, 4.2 benzene, 8.8 tolueneyclo and
5.2 xylenes.
As has been shown above the system was not efficient in condensing
out the water and hydrocarbons from the vapor stream. In
actuality all that was being accomplished was placing a blower on
the wells and exhausting into charcoal with some minor removal of
water.
1f
Our Pilot Test using a 100 cfm blower with condensate drums on the
influent and effluent of the blower and exhausting into charcoal
accomplished the following: A total flow rate of 30 cfm, removal
of an average 60 lbs/day hydrocarbons, condensing of 3 gallons of
fluid a day. With the increase in blower size the hydrocarbon
removal has been increase from 60 to 144
lbs/day (x2.4) .
Samples from the extraction wells and influent and effluent of the
1 condensate tank (still vacuum side of um
afternoon an Hay 21, 1991, showed the follow obtained obtained the
1. Ground water monitoring wells MW1 and MW5 are producing
the most hydrocarbons, from the ground water.
2• The low flow rates and hydrocarbon production from the
excavation and pump island weds, indicate that these
areas have low permeability and low levels of
hydrocarbon contamination.
3. The influent and effluent samples indicated a 15.5
removal of total__hydrocarbons.---------- —-------
,rT
On May 22, 1991 late afternoon, a site visit was conducted to
evaluate the effect the orifice manifold had on increase in vacuum
to the pump and to place the pump on the pressure side of the
2
