20 August 2009
AGE-NC Project No. 06- 1457
2.2. 1 . Drilling and Soil Sampling
A truck-mounted, hollow stem drill rig equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers will be
utilized to advance the monitoring well borings to approximately 40 feet, 80 feet and 105 feet bsg.
Total depths of the borings may vary according to hydrogeologic/geologic conditions encountered
during drilling. Soil samples will be collected from each boring to five foot intervals beginning at
five feet bsg, to the total depth of the borings. Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of
California Department of Public Health (CDPH)-certified laboratory to define the soil plume and
complete data gaps, for the following constituents:
• TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX constituents) and fuel additives
tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (RIPE), MTBE, ethyl tertiary butyl ether
(ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), ethylene dibromide (EDB) and
I Uichloroethane (1 ,2-DCA) by EPA Method 8260B.
Laboratory reports for the soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory QA/QC reports, and sample
chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with fmdings and recommendations.
Procedures for monitoring well pilot boring drilling and soil sampling are presented in Section 3 . 1 .
2.2 .2 . Well Completion, Development and Survey
Following well installations, the wells will be developed to maximize water flow and minimize the
amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping or bailing. Procedures for well
completion and development are presented in Sections 3 .2. and 3 .3 . , respectively. In addition, the
top of the well casing will also be surveyed by a licensed surveyor.
2 .2.3 . Ground Water Sample Collection and Analysis
Ground water monitoring and sampling of the newly installed ground water monitoring wells will
be conducted on a quarterly basis unless an alternate schedule or suspension of monitoring is
approved by the EHD . Ground water monitoring activities will include recording depth to ground
water measurements and collection of ground water samples; ground water sample collection
procedures are described in Section 3 .4. Collected ground water samples will be analyzed by a
CDPH-certified laboratory for the constituents listed in Section 2.2. 1 .
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
