22 May 2013
AGE Project No . 11 - 1847
Page 2 of 6
2 . 1 , PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained , including boring/well permits from the
SJCEHD . Also , a site-specific Health and Safety Plan will be prepared . Prior to
mobilization , each soil probe location will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert, The SJCEHD will be contacted 48-hours prior to
conducting investigation activities to arrange for inspection .
2 .2 . SOIL PROBE BORINGS AND SAMPLING
One deep soil boring (135) will be advanced in the area of historic boring GW-6 utilizing
truck mounted drilling rig equipped with 8-inch hollow stem augers. The soil boring will be
advanced to minimum depth of 100 feet below surface grade for soil sample collection . ,, G
Generally, soil samples will be collected from the boring at five-foot intervals between 60
and 100 feet bsg . However, field personnel may adjust the frequency and method of
sampling in consultation with an AGE Professional Geologist.
A grab groundwater samples will be collected at the base of the boring to evaluate vertical
migration of the hydrocarbon plume . Procedures for advancement of soil borings and
sampling are presented in Section 3. 0 .
2 . 3 . LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil samples and grab groundwater samples will be analyzed by a California
Department of Public Health (CDPH)-certified laboratory for the following constituents :
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with
EPA Method 8015 Modified ;
• Benzene , toluene, ethyl-benzene and total xylenes (BTEX) , di-isopropyl ether
(DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether ( ETBE) , methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE ), tertiary-
amyl methyl ether (TAME ), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethylene dibromide ( EDB ) and
1 ,24chloroethane by EPA method 82606 ;
• Total lead in accordance with EPA Method 60108 .
Laboratory reports for soil sample and water analyses , testing methods , laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation
will be presented in a report with the findings and recommendations .
