REG 603 UPDATE-8 7/17/92
•
initial inspection and operation of the system The unit operated
until November 5, 1991, when it was shut down to replace a worn
bearing The system was restarted after the repairs on November
20, 1991 and operated until December 24, 1991. On this date
someone turned off the main breaker that services the treatment
compound. This breaker box has since been locked. The unit was
restarted on January 3, 1992 and operated until June 22, 1992,
with occasional auto shut downs due to high temperature (15500F)
in pre-oxLdation chamber On March 10, 1992, adjustments were
made to increase the pounds destroyed, and lower the natural gas
and ambient air usage During these adjustments the pilot flame
went out, indicating the need for maintenance to the pilot system.
A REMOX service technician repaired the pilot system and the unit
was restarted on March 15, 1992
At the present (June 22, 1992) the REMOX has operated for a total
of 3686 hours out of a total of 5981 75 hours (62%) , removing and
destroying 23700 pounds of gasoline range hydrocarbons for an
average of 6.4 pounds per hour. Since the last update status
report (March 18, 1992) the REMOX has operated 1075 hours out of a
possible 2307.75 hours for a 46 6% operation and has
removed/destroyed 7570 pounds or 7 0 pounds per hour, see Tables 2
and 3 and Appendix C-Air Monitoring Reports
Condensate from vapor extraction is being collected in moisture
drop out tanks constructed of 12" PVC pipe, prior to the manifold,
to prevent moisture build up on the vacuum pump filter All
fluids removed from the condensate traps are placed into the 1000
gallon "ConVault" within the treatment compound. As of June 22,
1992, a total of 10 27 gallons of product and 51 59 gallons of
water have been removed from the condensate traps; 0 06 gallons
product and 18 73 gallons water from EX4" , 3.98 gallons product
and 13.13 gallons water from MW-10, and 6.23 gallons product and
21 73 gallons water from MW2/3 No fluids have collected in the
MW-1 condensate trap
As of June 22, 1992, a total of 3842 5 gallons of gasoline range
hydrocarbons have been removed from the soil and ground water
beneath this site with the condensate traps recovery, combined
with previously removed floating product (40.25 gallons) and vapor
extraction-destruction of hydrocarbons (23700 pounds/6.25
3792 gallons) No chlorinated solvents have been detected in
chromatogram comparisons; ie 1,2,-Dichloroethane (DCE) -
retention time 2 079 minutes, Trichloroethylene (TCE) - retention
time 3.023 minutes and Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) - retention time
3 75 minutes.
•
PAGE 10
