Ij 4. Geology,Soils and Seismicily
a. Conversion of Prime Agricultural Land
Significant Unavoidable Impact J.2
Excavation and landfilling on the project site would permanently convert prime agricultural land
to non-agricultural use. The proposed project would result in the direct loss of approximately 219
acres of prime agricultural land from future production. Because farmlands are a diminishing
;j resource in the County, this loss would be considered significant. This impact is also addressed
h in Impact A.2, above.
Finding:
Based upon the whole record, the Planning Commission finds this impact to be significant and
`? unavoidable. No mitigation is available for loss of prime farmland. This impact is overridden by
the project benefits as set forth in the Statement of Overriding Considerations.
Facts Supporting the Finding:
Prime agricultural land is a diminishing resource in the County, therefore the loss of
approximately 219 acres of prime farmland is considered significant. Because the loss of prime
} farmland would be irretrievable with project development, this impact is considered significant
and unavoidable and no mitigation has been identified which would be available to compensate
for the loss of prime farmland anticipated with the site's development.
r ;
I
1
5
i
j
57
'I
i
