I J
San Joaquin Planning Division
Page Two
40 feet. Existing conditions are creating an overdraft . it is
inappropriate to use some imported estimate figures when actual
usage is available from the applicant.
There is also the issue of septic disposal . The last packing
plant approved in this area, the tomato cannery, at the opposite
end of Fairchild had a tremendous problem with odors of decaying
fruit which was not resolved for years. How will the applicant
insure the rotten cherries will not create a. similar stench.
Also, will the effluent contain methyl bromide? t
1
Finally there has been a problem in the past with workers from
the existing plant trespassing. on my clients' and other' s proper-
ty. While not strictly speaking an environmental problem, it
does underscore the issue of the incompatibility of what is
essentially. an industrial use in this area.
Consequently for each of the foregoing reasons concerning traf-
fic, noise, water, septic and basic land-use compatibility an
environmental impact report should be prepared and considered
prior to approval of .this project.
Sincerely,
ALEXANDER T. HENSON
ATH/kr
cc: Gene and Betty DeMartini
i
DB211.CO
