SITE CONDITIONS <br /> At the time of our field explorations, the project site was relatively flat and had recently been <br /> disked. A small amount of disked vegetation covered the site. An irrigation standpipe was <br /> present between the project site and Harlan Road. The locations of any underground utilities <br /> are not known to our firm at this time. <br /> V. FIELD EXPLORATIONS <br /> The field explorations for this project were performed on December 7, 1994, and consisted of <br /> drilling four test borings to depths of approximately 10 to 211/2 feet below the existing ground <br /> surface. The borings were located previous to our field explorations by Siegfried Engineering <br /> I and were drilled with truck-mounted drill equipment using 6-inch diameter, continuous-flight <br /> J augers. Continuous logs of the soils encountered in each boring were maintained by a field <br /> engineer of our firm, and relatively undisturbed soil samples were obtained for visual <br /> observation, classification, and laboratory testing. The soil samples were collected by driving <br /> 1 a 2-inch inside-diameter sampler into the soil using a 140-pound hammer falling approximately <br /> 30 inches. The number of blows required to advance the sampler into the soils is noted on the <br /> Logs of Borings, Plate A-3 through A-6, at the corresponding sample locations. <br /> i VI. SOIL CONDITIONS <br /> The surface soil conditions encountered at the locations explored generally consisted of loose, <br /> silty sands that extended to a depth of approximately 2 feet below the ground surface. Below <br /> the loose surface soils, silty sand and sandy silt soils were encountered that extended to depths <br /> of 6 to 9 feet below the existing ground surface. In boring B-1, the silty sands were underlain <br /> by alternating layers of sandy silty clay and sandy silts that extended to the maximum depth <br /> explored of 211/2 feet. In boring B-2 the silty sand was underlain by a relatively-clean sand that <br /> extended to a depth of approximately 15 feet, which was then underlain by a silty sand that <br /> extended to the maximum depth explored of 161/2 feet. In boring B-3 the silty sand was <br /> underlain by a layer of sandy silt that extended to the maximum depth explored of <br /> approximately 10 feet.
