Application#PA0400250 (QX)
(APN/Address 249-050-17 - 22469 S. Henry Road, Escalon)
Applicant: George Reed, Inc. (Quarry Excavation)
Please accept this letter as our protest against the above referenced application.
Our property address is 22342 Henry Road, Escalon, Ca. 95320
Upon receipt of the Application Referral letter, our first thought was "We can
just sell and move." But, then the second thought was"We can't do that, because
of disclosure laws." Once we disclose to a buyer that a Quarry will exist across
the road approximately 75 feet from our front yard and would be functional for 10 to 12
years, who would want the property?
We are now retired. This has been our home since 1989. If this application is approved
it will significantly affect us for the remainder of our lives. There is no justification
to subject the inhabitants of this area to the harmful and invasive environment created
by a Quarry operation in our front yard.
Who will be responsible for damages to our property, our health, and our
environment caused by this operation?
Quarry excavation impacts our environment by increasing hazardous dust, hazardous
gas and/or diesel fumes, vibrations to our structures (geological damages) , contamination
of ground water, and lowering of the ground water level, excessive noise and increased traffic.
The dust will contain Crystalline silica which is classified as a toxic air contaminant that
causes cancer. The State of California has determined under Proposition 65 that
crystalline silica(airborne particles of respirable size)is a carcinogen (CCR, 1996).
According to UCLA Labor Occupational Safety Health Program(LOSH). Crystalline
silica which is a Toxic Air Contaminant is prevalent in rock, sand and gravel operations in
California.. Crystalline silica will be in the particle phase in the atmosphere, and hence
subject to wet and dry deposition.
