23 September 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 05-1330
fronting South Adelbert Avenue was moved to the property in approximately 1910 and demolished
in 1993.
The subject property was located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Horner and South
r Adelbert Avenues. Land use of the surrounding properties was generally long-term residential.
Figure 1 shows the setting of the subject property (7.5 Minute United States Geological Survey
r (USGS) Topographic Series, Stockton East Quadrangle, California) at an elevation of
approximately30 feet above mean sea level (MSL) and in an area of low topographic relief. The
regional slope of the area is relatively gentle and dips toward the southwest.
r
At the time of the 30 August 2005 site visit, the subject property included one approximately 1,064-
square-foot residence with a two-car garage located on the west side of the property. The remainder \
r of the property was an open, fenced yard with one steel storage container and one tin storage shed (
along the northern boundary. There were at least four areas with general storage of residential and V
construction materials and non-operable vehicles or vehicle shells. The subject property was served
by municipal water and sewer systems. There had been recent upgrades to the storm water sewer
system near the property and some of the soil from sewer line excavation was spread on part of the
r yard area. The subject property is depicted in Figure 2; photographs of the subject property are
provided in Appendix-A.
3.0. REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING
r The subject property is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California,a large,
elongate, northwest trending, asymmetric structural trough. The Great Valley Province has been filled
to its present elevation with thick sequences of sediment ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent,
r creating a nearly horizontal alluvial plain, extending from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to
the Klamath Mountains in the north. The western and eastern boundaries of this province are
comprised of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada, respectively. Rocks composing the
basement complex of the province have not been completely defined but are believed to be
metamorphic and igneous in origin. The northern and southern portions of the Great Valley Province
have been designated the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, respectively.
r
Environmental Data Resources Inc. (EDR), a data retrieval company (httD://www.edmet.com),
provides a report listing the dominant soil composition in the general area of the subject property
based on information from the United States Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service
STATSGO(State Soil Geographic Database)soil maps. The soil surface texture is listed as CLEAR
LAKE soil,a clay in a Class D Hydrogeologic Group which includes very slow infiltration rates. The
r corrosion potential of this soil for uncoated steel is high.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
ar
