the Rose site. Typical operation cycles were included in the source noise
emission factors.
Haul Truck Noise Levels:
A total of 26 truck loads per hour was reported for the excavation process,
resulting in 52 truck passages per hour on the access road. The proposed
_ project access road was assumed to cross Macarthur Road and enter the existing
Teichert rock plant without traveling on Macarthur Road. If a conveyor system
is used to transport the excavated aggregate to the plant rather than the
proposed haul truck system, the only potentially significant noise source
associated with the excavation operation would be the 9888 front loaders.
_ Because haul trucks would not be traveling on public roadways, (other than to
cross MacArthur Road) , traffic noise levels on public roadways would not
increase appreciably as a result of the proposed Rose site excavation.
Noise emission data for fully loaded gravel trucks were taken from BBA noise
measurements conducted at the Teichert Tracy and Martis Valley plants, which
were found to compare favorably to other BBA file data for similarly loaded
heavy trucks. A mean Sound Exposure Level (SEL) of 80 dB at a distance of 100
feet was used to describe a single heavy truck passage at the Rose excavation
site.
Based on 52 heavy truck passages per hour at a mean SEL of 80 dB per passage,
the average hourly (Leq) heavy truck noise level at a distance of 100 feet
from the truck access road was computed to be approximately 62 dB.
Front Loader Noise Levels:
One front loader would typically be in continuous operation during normal
excavation. Front loader operations were assumed to be 52 passages per hour,
corresponding to 2 front loader dumps per haul truck. Noise emission data for
front loader operations were taken from BBA noise measurements collected at
the Tracy plant. A mean SEL of 81 dB at 100 feet was used for the assessment
of 988B front loader noise levels.
Based on 52 front loader passages per hour at a mean SEL of 81 dB per passage,
the average hourly (Leq) front loader noise level at a distance of 100 feet
from the front loader operating area was computed to be approximately 63 dB.
3
