Gilton Resource Recovery
Food By-Product / Feed Production Site
Odor Impact Minimization Plan
It is critical to the success of this project to make sure that the materials that
arrive at the Site have not, nor do not, become anaerobic in nature. Since we
are purchasing these by-products, it is very important for us to process them very
quickly to prevent degradation. Economically it is to our benefit to de-water and
dry the commodities quickly. This has the added benefit of significantly reducing
the possibility of us producing offensive odors.
I. Odor Monitoring Protocol
A. Proximity of Odor Receptors
The closest receptors will be GRR personnel at the Site and are used to monitor
the facility on a daily basis.
The nearest off-site receptors are located on adjoining properties listed as
follows:
1 . 700' South
2. 520' East
3. 340' North
4. 800' Northwest
B. Method for Assessing, Preventing and Mitigating Odor Impacts
Each day the Site Manager will evaluate the site for on-site objectionable odors
and determine if there is a potential for migration of these odors off-site. In
addition, the Site Manager will assign and utilize company personnel to survey
and determine if objectionable odors are detected off-site as they approach the
Site while coming to work or upon returning to work from being away from the
facility during the work day.
Best Management Practices (BMPs) and good housekeeping measures will be
implemented at the Site to minimize the formation and/or release of objectionable
odors, e.g., keeping receiving areas and storage areas clean and organized,
spreading material to be dried within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt, turning
materials frequently to facilitate solar drying and dehydration, eliminating any
areas where water could pond, load checking, cleaning and maintaining water
retention basins. Every effort will be made to avoid the generation of any
potential odors, particularly when weather conditions are not conducive to rapid
drying.
O/MP
Page 2
2012-126 Attachments Attachment No 3-OIMP 12-06-20.doc
