OF n
FjGudel Property
Phase I Environmental Assessment
Page:4
ri The property owner has indicated in a telephone interview that there have never been any
hazardous materials or petroleum stored on_the_subject parcel^that they are aware of.
Aerial photographs and historical topographical maps were reviewed back to the 1950's
and depicted a similar picture as to the current conditions of the undeveloped acreage.
Historically the surrounding area has been used for pasture with scattered ranch facilities.
F1No fuel pumps or above ground fuel tanks were apparent in the pictures.
Assessor's records address the pasture land with no indication of improvements. Since
no building records have ever been included in the file copies were not made for this
report.
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department and Fire Department were
Fill contacted to review any hazardous materials files but no files were available. Business
directories do not list this rural area in historical volumes. Historical Sanborn maps were
reviewed as far back as 1.888. This portion of San Joaquin County was not depicted on
the maps indicating an area of little commercial development prior to 1950.
3.1 Site Location
Maps have been provided in order to give a picture of the location of the subject
T property. Maps included are a vicinity map (Figure 1), a parcel map and site maps
(Appendix A), and a record search index map(Appendix E).
3.2 Description of the Area
FJ The subject property is located near the corner of North Lower Sacramento and Liberty
Roads. Similar pasture and ranch lands have historically bordered the subject parcel in
P
all directions. Housing developments are now being constructed to the south along
Forest Lake Road. The Gudel Dairy is located on the parcel immediately south of the
subject property. Aerial photographs depict a similar environment dating back to the
F1940's with developments to the south beginning in the late 1990's.
F13.3 Geology & Hydrology
Unconsolidated quaternary sediments to depths of 400 feet or more floor the San Joaquin
Valley. All of these units can be considered soils in the engineering sense, as they are
F" unconsolidated.
The sediments of the Central Valley were deposited as a series of coalescing alluvial
fans. The fans originated where valleys of major streams that drained the Sierras, emptied
into the broad expanses of the Central Valley. The coarser sediments, which comprise the
Efans, are mainly arkosic in composition. They were derived from erosion associated with
i
