October 31,2003
NOA ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT NUMBER LE03-311
The subject property was observed to comprised of two equal parts. The western half of the site
housed an abandoned dairy,a residence, and a mobile home. The eastern half was recently tilled and
had been used for agriculture. A mailbox numbered 18400 Steinegul Road was observed near the
residential area.
r.
Within the dairy area, the agricultural ponds had been excavated, and manure was spread and
mounded over the ground. An approximately 10,000-gallon tank labeled "diesel" was observed at
the edge of the largest pond, and two approximately 250-gallon tanks were observed abandoned to
the northeast of this pond near the property line.
Within the milking barn, close to 20, 50-gallon and smaller, plastic drums were observed; most of
these drums were close to empty. A faucet near this barn was leaking, and a marsh had formed within
the former cow washing area. Near this area, an empty container of Rhomene (MCPA amine)was
observed on the ground. Potential product application tanks were observed near the mobile home
and near the ponds. Within the easternmost barn, a refrigerator containing various commercial
chemical bottles was observed.
A large pile of trash and tires was observed to the north of the milking barn; most of the trash
appeared to be the remains of a demolished barn.
Five transformers were observed on the site, and six were observed along the roadway boundaries
of the subject property. All appeared to be old, but no obvious leaks were observed. One above-
ground storage tank was observed adjacent to the subject property across Steinegul Road.
The residence and mobile home on the subject property were not inspected out of courtesy to the
residents. Close inspection of the western portion of the subject property was not possible due to
barbed wire fences.
3.2 Past On-Site Sources of Contamination
The following potential above-or below-ground on-site potential or known sources of contamination
were identified from past uses of the site:
• Cyanazine and MCPA imeth famine§AIL=re applied to the, sueectX overt in 1998 and
23OO respectively. Both are known to be potential groundwater contaminants_ Though no
recent use reports were located at the Agricultural Commissioner's office,an empty container
of MCPA a on the propertX during the site visit.
11
