Of the approximately 162 acres owned by Landmark Lathrop Group,
LLC only about 32 acres will be excavated under this proposed
application .
The property is situated in the Great Central Valley of
California, a major agricultural producing region adjacent to
the San Joaquin River .
Soils in the project area have formed from alluvial flooding,
and are rated as Class III if irrigated, and Class IV without
irrigation . These soils are marginal for farming . In the case
of class IV soils, careful crop management must be exercised for
successful farming . Recoverable topsoil depths range up to
approximately four feet .
Ground water under the property is encountered at a depth of 10-
14 feet . Wells are quite prolific due to the sandy nature of
the underlying sediments . Ground water flow direction is towards
the northwest and San Joaquin River .
4 . 3 Description Of Operations
After clearing and grubbing the existing almond trees and
stumps , topsoil will be removed by conventional wheel scrapers
and deposited in stockpiles in the southwest area reserved for
this purpose . The stockpiles will be stabilized and protected
from wind and water erosion .
Isolated areas of clay and silt overburden will be removed in
the same method as the topsoil removal . This material will also
be placed in stockpiles for sale as a general fill material or
stored for contouring the land prior to placing the topsoil
during the final reclamation process .
After exposing the sand reserve, it will be excavated with
scrapers and hauled to a central washing screen feed hopper .
The scrapers will dump directly into the hopper . Screen
discharge will be conveyed to stockpiles for subsequent load-out
and shipping from the site . Screen underflow will be piped to
the settling ponds . The stockpiled raw sand product will be
loaded into highway haul trucks of about 25-ton capacity by a
wheeled front-end loader . The trucks will be measured and
recorded before they exit the property .
Landmark Lathrop Group, LLC
2 - February 3, 2000
