Makeup water for the processing of sand is to be provided by a
groundwater well and by storm water retained and pumped during
the storm season . Makeup water is captured and pumped to a
series of settling ponds . All process water will be pumped from
the settling ponds and recycled through the system . The
settling process involves pumping the water into an initial
settling pond . The water then flows , via pipeline, into a
secondary holding pond . The water is then pumped back into the
washing plant .
4 . 4 . 2 Office And Vehicle Maintenance Self Contained Trailers
- The office and vehicle maintenance self contained trailers
shown in Figure 3, includes the truck loading area , offices ,
shop and equipment wash area . The area is generally flat . The
vehicle maintenance shop is an enclosed work area . The
equipment wash area comprises a concrete pad adjacent to the
shop
4 . 4. 3 The Water System - The washing and screening plant will
require approximately 160, 000 gallons of make-up water per day
to replace water retained in the settled clays and silts, and in
the stockpiled raw sand product . There is no discharge from this
operation . All water used is recycled . Some water will be
taken from the settling ponds and used for dust control on the
roads around the quarry site during the dry summer season .
Water for domestic uses will be taken from a well located on a
portion of the property away from the mining pit .
It is anticipated that the site will be dewatered in advance of
the mining by drilling a series of perimeter wells . Groundwater
discharge from these wells will be directed to an existing
drainage easement across the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-
way, and from there to the San Joaquin River .
4 . 5 Geology and Seismicity
Landmark Lathrop Group, LLC
4 - February 3, 2000
