My family has
farmed this land since 1912 and continue to do so. I am veU strongly opposed to this
rp oiect for the following reasons:
1. Loss of prime agricultural land. This is another example of the leapfrog
effect of urban/suburban crawl onto prime farm land. If this project is allowed,
it will be another step toward paving and cementing over some of the best
farmland in the world. We should not let this happen - YOU should not let this
happen. Harney Lane has been and still is the boundary line of the City of
Lodi. This proposed project lies to the south of Harney Lane and is clearly in
the area considered farmland, i, e. "in the countryThis proposed project is
not a 'country project. A regional church facility should be built within city
limits where there are existing city services available. There are better
locations for this type of facility within the city limits of Lodi or Stockton. Even
though this proposed project land is not being farmed at present, it can and
should be. The nursery company currently using the property is still within the
realm of agriculture. I repeat this project should not be allowed on this land.
2. Incompatible use with adiacent farming operations. This proposed project
will interfere with the adjacent grape vineyards, cherry orchards, pistachio
orchards, and the wholesale nursery operation. At times throughout the year,
seven days a week, there is spraying of herbicides, insecticides, pesticides,
etc., application of fertilizers, agricultural burning, tilling of the soil, and
harvesting operations. These operations will create dust, noise, odors and
potentially unsafe conditions for the large numbers of people expected at any
given time at a regional church facility. 1 understand that there is a "first use"
policy in San Joaquin County. Since this is agricultural land and a first use,
farming operations will pose negative and adverse conditions for this facility
and the people using it. The elderly and children, especially those with heart
or asthmatic conditions, would be at risk. A regional facility like this should be
built within city limits, away from farming operations.
3. Traffic congestion. The proposal of such a large regional facility (3 phases
over 4 years) will create a large amount of traffic, Hwy. 99 Frontage Road,
