Biological Resources, MONK &ASSOCIATES
Impacts and Mitigations
Tracy Facility Expansion Site
aquatic resources both onsite and downstream would be minimal. By the end of 2001, mining
crossing the creek would
e north side of the project site should be completed and g
activities on the p J
el should be ermanentl
' the creek charm Y
no longer be necessary. At that time, the culverts ui P
removed and the creek restored., Creek restoration would include seeding the creek with native
grasses and forts. Since the impact of the creek crossing would be temporary(occurring over a
two year period),restoration of the creek at the crossing location would be commensurate with
the impact. Reclamation of the creek channel would reduce this.impact to a level considered less
than significant.
15. ONGOING PERMITTING AND SURVEYS
Prior to installing culverts in Corral Hollow Creek, Granite should acquire the following
permits/agreements/verifications to Complete this work:
• Verification from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that the proposed culvert installation
meets all conditions of NWP 14(for road crossings);
A Str
Combed Alteration Agreement from the California Department of Fish and Game;
California Regional Water Quality
Q tY
• A certification or waiver of water quality from thegi
Control Board.
Granite's biologists,M&A,should make sure that the following special-status species surveys
are conducted at the appropriate time of year and in the correct sequence in the planning process:
• In April and May 1999, surveys for western spadefoot toad should take place in Corral i
Hollow Creek. If.spadefoots are identified, surveys should continue in 2000 and 2001 prior
to culvert installation.
• In May-June 1999,project site surveys for California homed lizard should be conducted. If
identified in 1999,preconstruction trapping and removal surveys would also have to be
conducted in each excavation area 30 days prior to initiating work in that particular area.
• 30 days prior to mining Area 1, a trapping and removal effort should take place to relocate
San Joaquin coachwhip. This trappingtremoval effort should be repeated in each subsequent
mining area the year excavation is proposed.
• In April-May 2000,surveys for nesting northern harriers should be conducted in mining
Area 1. Subsequent nesting surveys should take place each year prior to commencing with
mining in the next phase.
• Starting in the spring of 2000, spring nesting surveys for burrowing owl should be conducted
(between April and July)in each mining area prior to initiation of mining activity.
