February 11, 2005
.NOA Project Number: E04146A
One domestic well was observed to the south of the barn. Two propane tanks were observed in the
vicinity of the residences_-One approximately 100-gallon tank that appeared to be empty and several
_ piles of metal debris were observed behind the barn. Several empty, plastic drums were observed
behind the outbuilding;these were labeled as containing an"environmentally safe"soil sealant. Several
empty, plastic, five-gallon chemical buckets were also observed behind the outbuilding.
V_Six pole-mounted transformers were observed on the subject property; one was marked with a blue,
PCB-free sticker, and all appeared new.
✓ The soil surface of the subject property was not visible during the site visit due to the presence of
seasonal vegetation and muddy areas;because of these conditions,it was'not possible to assess the soil
i_ surface for staining.
i i Surrounding properties were surveyed at the time of the site reconnaissance. To the immediate west
of the subject property, a burned area with the remains of.a vehicle, several drums, and other debris,
marked the former location of a barn on the adjacent property. An above-ground storage tank, a
second abandoned vehicle, and other debris lay nearby. Aside from this area, surrounding properties
to the west, east, and south were agricultural land. To the north was the Mokelumne River, followed
by agricultural land with a few structures.
y3.2 Past On-Site Sources of Contamination
No potential above- or below-ground on-site potential or known sources of contamination were
identified from past uses of the site, except for the following:
• Paraquat was applied to the subject property in 2004. Paraquat is highly toxic and extremely
persistent. Other agricultural chemicals have also been mixed on and applied to the property.
Because of the age of the second dwelling unit on the subject property,it is possible that lead-
based paints and/or asbestos-containing materials were used in its construction.
/,'33 Current On-Site Sources of Contamination
No above-or below-ground on-site potential or known sources of contamination were identified from
current uses of the site, except for the following:
Agricultural chemicals are mixed and applied on the property. The mixing locations are near
the domestic well and adjacent to the pump at the northeast corner of the property. Empty
chemical containers are temporarily stored on the property.
Vehicular maintenance takes place on the property. O staining to concrete was observed in
one outbuilding.
8
