February 11, 2005
NOA Project Number: E04146A
' One approximately 100-gallon tank that appeared to be empty tywas observed on the property.
• Six pole-mounted transformers are located on the property or along property lines.
t/ • Piles of metal debris were observed behind the barn on the property.
y 3.4 Past Off-Site Potential Sources of Contamination
No above-or below-ground potential or known sources of contamination to the subject property were
identified from past uses of surrounding properties.
3.5 Current Off-Site Sources of Contamination
No above-or belowgroundpotential or known sources of contamination to the subject property were
identified from current uses of the surrounding properties, except for the following:
• Debris resulting from the fire of summer 2004,including two abandoned vehicles, two empty
drums,an above-ground storage tank, and an area of burned rubble, lies immediately adjacent
to the subject property along its western property line.
4.0 EVALUATION OF IDENTIFIED CONTAMINATION SOURCES
Paraquat and other agricultural chemical residues may remain on the property. Because the property
is to remain agricultural, however, and because there is no evidence that these chemicals were spilled,
mixed, or applied inappropriately, the potential presence of chemical residues on the property is not
considered an environmental concern at this time.
The potential for lead-based paints or asbestos-containing materials to be present on the property was
not fully evaluated because the interiors of the residential areas were not inspected.
Because the pole-mounted transformers observed on the property appear new, and one was marked
with a blue,PCB-free sticker the potential for leakage of PCB-contaminated oil is considered minimal.
Mr. Vince Tafuri, Chief of the Thornton Rural County Fire Protection District, did not see cause for
environmental concern at the time of the barn fire adjacent to the subject property, nor did he notify
the EHD or OES. Mr.Watts indicated that he has not observed significant runoff from that area onto
his property.
L
9
L
L
