The Primary Injection Formation, the Domengine Formation, is
confined, above by 117 feet of the Nortonville Shale
Formation, also called Confining Layer A and below by the
Capay Shale Formation, also called Confining. Layer B. The
total thickness of the Capay was not reached during drilling.
These intervals occur approximately between 3630 feet and 4578
feet below the ground surface (bgs) .
Infection Pressure Limitation:
Injection pressure measured at the wellhead--shall not exceed
975 psig for injection into the Domengine formation, based on
a fracture pressure gradient of 0.73 psi per foot. The Victor
Fine Foods wastewater disposal well at Lodi- := (VFF Deep
Injection Well No. 1) was tested to incipient breakdown at a
0. 73 psi/ft gradient in the Nortonville. Applying this value
as a reasonable estimate of the incipient breakdown gradient
at the NCPA Lodi STIG #1 site, the corresponding water
injection wellhead pressure would be calculated as follows:
(0. 73 - 0.'434.)psi/ft * 3 , 660 ft = 1, 083 psig
To arrive at a reasonably conservative injection pressure
limitation for NCPA well, this calculated pressure is reduced
by 10 percent.
1
0.9 * 1, 083 psig = 975 psig
The injection pressure limitations in the previous paragraph
may be increased by the Director based on the results of a
valid step-rate injection test in the respective -proposed
injection zone(s) . The Director will determine any allowable
increase . based . upon the step-rate test results and other
parameters reflecting actual injection operations.
Any approval granted by the Director for the increased
pressure limitations as stated- in the previous paragraph
shall be made part of this permit by minor modification
without further opportunity for public comment.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Levels of Formation Fluid:
The TDS of Domengine Sand is approximately 14 , 066 ppm.
Section B - Injected Fluid
Nature of Infected Fluid:
The wastewater generated by the NCPA facility consists of:
ultrafiltration brine reject, reverse osmosis (RO) brine
reject, cooling tower blowdown, and boiler blowdown.. These
four sources are combined prior to injection.
3
