1 Mix Ratio of Waste Stream: <br /> The ultrafiltration reject will constitute 48 percent of the <br /> waste stream, the RO brine reject will be 32 percent, - the <br /> cooling tower blowdown will be 18 percent, and the boiler <br /> blowdown and intermittent cleaning wastes will be about 2 <br /> percent of the flow to the Wastewater Treatment System. The <br /> amount of ultrafiltration and RO brine will vary with <br /> recovery rates, and the cooling tower blowdown will vary <br /> depending on the ambient temperature and humidity. The <br /> ultrafiltration unit is projected to -actually vary between 32 <br /> percent and 55 percent, the RO brine reject is expected to <br /> vary between 25 percent to 43 percent, as the cooling tower <br /> blowdown ranges between 15 percent to 32 percent. If high <br /> concentrations of silica are experienced, NCPA will be able to <br /> dilute the injectate somewhat by increasing the cooling tower <br /> blowdown rate, or by decreasing the ultrafiltration recovery <br /> rate. Boiler blowdown will usually be only about 1 percent of <br /> the flow, but could approach 43 percent for a few minutes each <br /> day. <br /> Ultrafiltration Units Brine Wastes: <br /> Between 180 gpm and 200 gpm of brine reject will be produced <br /> from the ultrafiltration units operating at full load. This <br /> waste stream will contain all of the solids diverted by the <br /> 0. 1-micron membranes. This waste stream will serve as <br /> dilution to the other waste streams. There will be no <br /> radioactivity, heavy metals, or undesirable organic chemicals ' <br /> injected. All chemicals used in the waste streams have been <br /> reviewed and approved by the EPA and are within the Maximum <br /> Contaminate Levels (MCLS) . The TDS of the .ultrafiltration <br /> unit waste ranges from 487 ppm to 620 ppm. <br /> Reverse Osmosis Brine Wastes: <br /> Approximately 130 gpm of brine reject will be produced by the <br /> RO units operating at full capacity. This waste stream will <br /> contain essentially all of the dissolved solids in the <br /> filtered water routed to the RO units. Depending on the <br /> constituent, the concentrations in the RO brine will be 2 . 1 to <br /> 4 times the concentrations in the WSWPCF incoming water. The <br /> TDS of the RO waste ranges from 1076 ppm to 1777 ppm. <br /> Cooling Tower Blowdown Wastes: <br /> Approximately 73 gpm of cooling tower blowdown will be pumped <br /> to the Wastewater Treatment System from the Cooling Tower <br /> System. - Due to evaporation, the concentration in' the cooling <br /> tower blowdown will be approximately twice that of the makeup <br /> water coming into the Cooling Tower System.
