2 , 4-D occurred at 3 , 094 mg/kg which was 30. 9 times the TTLC, <br /> DDE occurred at 2 . 5 mg/kg which was 2 . 5 times the TTLC, <br /> dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) occurred at 3 . 7 mg/kg which <br /> was 3 . 7 times the TTLC, and toxaphene occurred at 13 mg/kg which <br /> was 2 . 6 times the TTLC. <br /> 2 .4 Health Risks of Hazardous Substances Found. <br /> 2 .4 . 1 Toxaphene in certain concentrations is a human poison <br /> by ingestion and possibly other routes. In animal studies <br /> toxaphene is a carcinogen, tumorigen and teratogen. Human <br /> systemic effects of exposure to excessive toxaphene by ingestion <br /> and skin contact are somnolence, convulsions, coma and allergic <br /> skin dermatitis. Excessive toxaphene is a skin irritant; it is <br /> absorbed through the skin, and human liver injury has been <br /> reported. Excessive amounts of toxaphene entering the body <br /> through the mouth, lungs, and skin may be fatal. <br /> 2 .4 . 2 Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) in excessive <br /> amounts is a human poison by ingestion and possibly other routes. <br /> In animal studies DDT is a poison by ingestion, skin contact, <br /> subcutaneous, intravenous, and intraperitoneal routes. DDT in <br /> excessive amounts is a suspected human carcinogen, and in animal <br /> studies is a carcinogen, neoplastigen, tumorigen and teratogen. <br /> Human systemic effects of exposure to excessive DDT by ingestion <br /> are anesthesia, convulsions, headache, analgesia, cardiac <br /> arrythmias, nausea or vomiting, sweating and unspecified pulmonary <br /> changes. <br /> -4- <br />
