ZPRV, _s <br /> .., - <br /> TW <br /> of the three soil-filled brass liners were immediately protected <br /> with one layer of aluminum foil to form a barrier against <br /> escaping vapors. A layer of Parafilm laboratory film and tight- <br /> fitting plastic end caps were used to complete the seal. <br /> The sealed sample was labeled and placed in an ice-filled cooler <br /> - for storage and later transportation to the analytical labora- <br /> tory. The remaining soil--filled brass liners from the same sam- <br /> pling interval were emptied of their contents and scanned with an <br /> organic vapor analyzer (Thermo Environmental Instruments Model <br /> t580A OVM, equipped with a photo-ionization detector) . After <br /> being scanned with the OVM, the soil was described according to <br /> J. <br /> the. Unified Classification System and recorded on drill logs by <br /> i the supervising geologist, .A11 the soil .samples that were col- <br /> lected were submitted under chain of custody to Pace Laboratories <br /> in Novato, California. Pace is certified by the Department of <br /> Health.'Services to <br /> Perform hazardous and toxic waste analysis for <br /> metals and inorganic q c and organic parameters under certificate <br /> number 148. <br /> �€ Selected soil samples .from 'S85 and SB7 (within thegasoline tank <br /> excavation) were. analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) , <br /> r. benzene'; toluene, xylenes; and .ethylbenzene (BTXE) by DHS- <br /> roodzfied EPA Method 8015. Selected soil.. samples from SB5, : in the <br /> area. of the waste oil tank excavation, were analyzed for the <br /> § j <br /> waste 'ail compounds :listed in Table 2 of the Tri-Regional Board <br /> guidelines These include the metals Cd, Cr, Pb, Zn; TPH as i <br /> if gasoline and as diesel °by.
