Mary Meays, Senior RENS 04 March 18, 1993
Fleld Notes 1320 W.Weber
WHF Environmental representative, Ross Gruenwald, sampling the backfill area He labeled the
approximate location of BF-7 -
Collected sample BF-8 and BF-9 from the stockpile. I estimate approximately 450 cubic yards of treated
soil has been stockpiled to be used as backfill for the excavation.
Neil Adamson operating the excavator. Excavation curves on the south end back-west four soil samples
will be collected. Sample depth will range between 10 and 14 feet. Depth at which contamination in that
area had previously been detected.
X-14 collected - Some odor was observed in the bucket from which the sample was collected - Sample was
collected at approximately 11:38 a.m.
X-13 was collected at 11:30 a.m. No odor observed
X-10 collected at approximately 11:45 a.m. No odor observed - Sample collection 11 feet
X11 was collected at 11:45 a.m. and at 11 feet. Numbering difficult because we are moving backwards.
BF-10 collected at 1:35 p.m. The amount of soil that is being stockpiled for use as backfill in the treated
area is complete. Any additional stockpiling will be south of the treated area and will not require
sampling.
BF-11 collected at 1:38 p.m. from stockpile. That will be the last BF sample collected.
Discussed beginning sampling of excavated soil for characterization. Stockpile measurements from north
to south on the western boundry was measured 115 feet - measured off 120 Stockpile compaction east of
the 120 mark continues Excavation to remove a corner of contamination in the south-west of the
excavation began. They do not expect to begin excavating in the area of the street until tomorrow
morning. At 3:30 p.m. today they will stop and cover the stockpiled soil. It is now about 2:00 p.m.
Spoke with Ross Grunwald at 2:20 p.m. He anticipates sampling the southern and western boundary of
the excavation in approxcimately 15 minutes. Gridded out 800 cubic yards of the stockpiled soil. He
suggested that 15 samples be collected tomorrow morning to characterize the stockpiled soil.
X-15 collected northern end of the south-west dig out, sloughing problem occurred because backfill from
previous excavation encountered. Sample collected at 11 feet.
X-16 collected at 13 feet at 2:55 p.m. Soil in bucket had obvious odor. Requested that bottom of
excavation be cleaned out.
X-17 collected in some discolored soil. Sampled collected at 11 feet
