Mary Meays, RENS 60 March 1.6, 1993
Field Notes 1320 W WEBER
Re-excavation continued
Sheen observed on seep water within the excavation pit.
X-6 collected 29 feet from south-east corner, southern sample. Discolored soil however, no odor observed
EX-6 was collected at 12 feet.
Obvious staining in the northern wall. Excavation continues on the northern wall. Obvious odor
encountered in staining that was observed in the northern wall. I requested that the obviously
contaminated soil be segregated.
Phoned Diane Hinson and discussed confirmation soil sampling of formerly treated soil. One soil sample
for 50 cubic yards was deemed sufficient at least for some initial screening and if I felt after evaluating the
sample results, less frequency sampling plan would be acceptable. I was given the OK to make that on site
evaluation.
Excavations continued north to,at one point, approximately the fence line. An obvious area staining is
still present.
4 soil samples were collected of the stockpiled soil from the treatment area .
Approximately 1 sample was collected per 50 cubic yards. Samples collected were labeled: BF-1, BF-2,
BF-3, BF4. BF is a designation for backfill.
X-7 was collected just north of MW-8 Sample depth was 6 feet time 2:04 p.m.
BF-5 was collected by Mike McNulty
BF-6 was collected by Steve Furnas
Dehart Sheet Metal and Plumbing arrived on site to repair the broken sewer line from the office which is
connected to the sewer line that goes out into the street. A shelf is being dug out so that the repair can
be made. Additional excavation in that area will then proceed.
Time 2:10 p.m.
Dehart representative is digging out the sewer line. The backhoe operator back filling the southern area
of the excavation.
When Steve had arrived back on site, he had a copy of an encroachment permit #62067 to excavate the
south side of Weber Street in front of 1320 West Weber Street.
X-8 was collected at 2:10 p.m. Obvious odor in bucket. X-8 was collected at 11 feet
2:25 p.m. looks like rain
X-8 observation of the sample after it was run and the aliquot removed, there was no obvious odor in the
sample noted by chemist.
X-9 collected 46 feet south of the fence. Sample collected at 14 feet.
BF-7 collected from the third stockpile, the first 50 cubic yards or so.
If rain continues tomorrow, March 17, 1993, the re-excavation will be postponed until the rain stops.
X-10 collected at 15 feet,3:15 p.m. Sample collected 80 feet south of the fence.
Excavation halted at 3:30 p.m. due to heavy rain. We will continue either tomorrow or the next day when
the rain ceases.
