if
DeBoer Family Trust
201 West 5th Street, Ripon, California .lune 20, 1995
FSoil/Groundwater Workplan Page: 3
rt
WI F in conjunction with BKK Inc., a specialist in soil conditioning, will treat the "
..a excavated soils with bacteria cultures used for bio-remediation until the
contaminated levels are minimized. .6
The area will be covered with 6 mil plastic before the spoils are placed at this site.
The stockpiled material will be spread to an even depth, approximately 2 feet.
This assumes there will be a soils "fluff' of 25% between the excavation and
transportation to the treatment area.
All of the excavated materials will be mixed together in the stockpile. The soils are
L; contaminated with diesel and BTX&E as shown on Table 1. The graded soils will ;
be moistened to accept the application of a bacteria culture. The bacteria culture is .k
bred with the specific purpose of using the hydrocarbons as a "food of choice".
°.. The culture will be applied at a rate of about one pound per one-hundred (100) k
cubic yards of soil.
This soil/culture mix will be stirred at the total depth approximately every third day
for a period of sixteen (16) weeks. Water will be applied to enhance the 1
degradation process and to minimize the dust nuisance to the surrounding
r properties. A sprinkling system will be installed, possibly with timers, to ensure
that the bacteria process will continue.
The soil will be spread and treated for approximately four (4) months. The
P .
remedial action system installation is primarily labor intensive and includes the time
to prepare the soil bed, maintain proper moisture content, apply the soil bacteria, I
and do laboratory testing to confirm the successful soil treatment. The operation
r and maintenance includes regular activity by a technician and oversight by a
supervising registered professional.
Air monitoring will be conducted with a PID instrument to comply with the
requirements of the 'San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District
permit.
r
f After the bio-remediation is completed, confirmation sampling will be done to .
verify the success of the soil treatment process. Soil samples collected for analysis,f
will be analyzed using EPA method 3550/LUFT for diesel range petroleum's
hydrocarbons and EPA method 8020 for BTX&E compounds. The minimum
detection limits used for each analyte will be .005 mg/kg for BTX&E and 5.0 mg/kg.
for diesel. Analyses will be conducted by California Laboratory Services, Inc., a State-
,, certified lab in Rancho Cordova, California. All ,laboratory samples will be I
transported under chain of custody to a State of California Certified Laboratory. ,
M
1
