K4 KLEINFELDER
File No. 20-2182-24
February 20, 1990
surface. The grey-brown clays were encountered at the surface in
Boring 5 . The soils encountered beneath the grey-brown clays
consisted of tan sandy and clayey silts, with occasionally more
sandy layers, that extended to the maximum depths explored. The
surface clays were generally stiff to very stiff, and the
underlying soils were very stiff to hard.
No free groundwater was encountered in any of the borings .
However, it is possible that changes in groundwater conditions
could occur at the site in the future due to variations in
rainfall, groundwater withdrawal, construction activities or other
factors not apparent at the time our test borings were drilled.
The above is a general summary of the soil and groundwater
conditions encountered in the test borings drilled for this
investigation. More detailed descriptions of the soils encountered
in each boring are noted on the Logs of Borings . All soils have
been classified according to the Unified Soil Classification
System, described on Plate II .
LABORATORY TESTS
Laboratory tests were performed on selected samples obtained from
the exploratory borings in order to evaluate the moisture, density
and expansion characteristics of the soils encountered. The tests
included Moisture Content and Dry Density Determinations and an
Atterberg Limits test.
4
