IX-FLOC The XIGATM Concept and Operation Manual
Storage and Shipment
X Flow's XIGAT" elements are shipped in special cardboard boxes or wooden
crates, which provide protection during transport.
Crates and membrane filtration elements should be stored in a dry, normally
ventilated place, away from sources of heat, ignition and direct sunlight.
Store in places between 0 and 40 °C.
Handle the elements with care at all times.
The elements will be integrity tested before shipment.
To prevent dehydration and control bacterial growth, the membranes are
saturated with a water/glycerine/ sodium bisulfite solution(79:20:1[wt/wt/wt%])
and vacuum sealed in plastic foil prior to shipment.
Sealed elements can be stored for 6 months at a temperature of 0 -40 °C in the
original packing. When exceding six months of storage, the indicated solution , +.
has to be refreshed. Preferably RO or demineralized water is used for the
solution. Before storage the elements should be sealed in plastic again. In this
way the elements can be stored for 1 month after which the solution has to be
refreshed.
+ I
} a
Elements which have been in use, have to be cleaned thoroughly before
storage. Cleaning is done in the installation by a backflush with clean water or
' l
permeate. When necessary, chemicals are added to the backflush water e.g.
10,000-20,000 ppm citric acid and/or 500 ppm NaOCI. An additional backflush
with water is needed when chemicals are used to remove these completely.
When necessary, repeat the cleaning procedure or parts of it.
Cleaned elements removed from pressure vessels should be saturated with the
already indicated solution and sealed in plastic when destined to be used again.
In this way the elements can be stored for 1 month after which the solution has to be refreshed.
CAPF-XIGA-0143
