The Work Plan discusses the unleaded
gasoline releases from aboveground storage tanks (AST)#3301 and#3302 in March and April 2002 and
proposes 11 soil borings with soil and groundwater samples to delineate the extent of petroleum pollution.
We have the following comments on the Work Plan:
1. The Work Plan proposes total depths of nine feet below ground surface. ST Services should
determine the total depths of the borings based on visual observation and PID readings with a
minimum total depth of nine feet to ensure vertical delineation.
2. Figure 2 of the Work Plan shows the locations of the 11 borings. The borings proposed near AST
#3301 look adequate, but the borings near AST#3302 do not appear to address the lateral extent of
visual staining. ST Services needs to adjust sampling locations or include additional borings to
address the extent of observed staining.
The Work Plan is hereby approved provided that ST Services responds to the above comments by
10 July 2002. Please submit an investigation report detailing field activities, analytical results, and
recommendations for further delineation or remedial actions by 13 September 2002.
