A sand pack using I6 Monterey sand will be
placed in a annulus o eac i we I extending from the bottom of the well screen to approximately two
feet above the top of the screen. Approximately three feet of hydrated bentonite chips will be placed on
top of the sand pack. A bentonite cement slurry mixture will be tremi grouted from the top of the
bentonite layer to approximately two Feet below surface grade. Surface completions will consist of a
watertight bolt-down wellhead secured in Portland cement. To protect the integrity of well , locking,
watertight well plugs will be installed on each well . Appendix A shows the proposed well construction
details.
Sparge Well Installation
Prior to conducting the sparge pilot tests, ATC will install three dual nested sparge wells using H2O
Engineering sparge point well assembly. Designated sparge wells SP- 1 , SP-2, and SP-3 will each contain
two nested ozone sparging points that will be screened within specific tithologic intervals set at
approximately 60 and 80 to 85 fee bgs. /v a wzA, ( +M 4l y a 4' Tl
The borings for the sparge wells will be advanced using a hollow stem auger rig equipped with 10411ch
outside diameter (5%" or 6'/a" inside diameter) augers, Figure 4, Proposed Pilot Test Well Location Map,
illustrates the location of the proposed sparge wells. Soil samples will be collected at five to ten foot
intervals for tithologic logging purposes. Descriptions of soil types, lithologic features, PID readings,
blow counts, soil-groundwater interface and sample locations will be recorded on boring logs. Soil
samples will be field screened for VOCs using a PID. Selected soil samples collected during drilling
(samples exhibiting the greatest PID reading and the sample directly above the water bearing unit) will be
placed in a cooler with ice and delivered under chain-of-custody documentation to a State-certified
analytical laboratory for analyses.
Dual nested sparge wells will be constructed and placed at appropriate depths. Each sparge well screen
will consist of 1 . 5 feet of 2-inch diameter porous (25 micron pore size) PolyVinyliehne DiFluoride
(PVDF) In-situ Oxidation Points (10P). The IOP, designed and manufactured by H2O Engineering, are
constructed from ozone-resistant PVDF, a highly non-reactive and pure thermoplastic fluoropolymcr also
known as Kynaro. Each well screen will be designed with a Vitone O-ring seal and fitted with 2-inch
diameter schedule 80 PVC riser pipe (RP). Within the well box , flue RP will be fitted with a water/air
tight wellhead connection (WIJQ designed from schedule 80 PVC material that will be used to facilitate
sparging.
Approximately 2 feet of #2/ 16 Monterey sand will be placed above each respective AS well screen
followed by a minimum of three feet of hydrated bentonite chips. A bentonite cement slurry mixture will j
be tremi grouted from the top of the bentonite layer of the shallowest AS well point to approximately two
feet below surface grade. Surface completions will consist of a watertight bolt-down wellhead set in
Portland cement. Appendix A shows the proposed well construction details.
Workplan for feasibility.
