*4000 Sup,
Brett Hunter
3246 E. Fremont St.
Page 2
Groundwater monitoring commenced, unfortunately only two sampling events occurred
prior to MWI, MW2, and MW3 being reported dry on February 22, 1989.
Contamination was detected in all samples collected.
Additional monitoring wells, EA-1, EA-2, EA-3, and EA-4 were installed on February 10,
1988. Groundwater at this time was initially encountered at approximately 46 feet.
Groundwater contamination was detected in samples collected from EA-1, EA-2, and
EA-4. No confirmation groundwater samples were collected from EA-2 prior to the well
being reported dry on February 22, 1989. Three groundwater sampling events occurred
prior to EA-1, EA-3 and EA-4 being reported dry on September 21, 2989.
Monitoring wells, MW1, MW2 and MW3, were destroyed on August 9, 1990. Two
additional monitoring wells, EA-5 and EA-6, were also installed on August 9, 1990.
Groundwater at this time was initially encountered at approximately 69 feet. No
contamination was detected in groundwater samples collected from EA-5 and EA-6.
During the last sampling event, May 19, 1992, groundwater was reported at
approximately 77 feet.
Please include in the work plan a discussion and evaluation of historic information
documenting soil and groundwater contamination at various locations and depths. Since
neither soil nor groundwater remediation of the site has occurred, mass balance
evaluation with estimation of the original source volume should be included within the
work plan. Proposed soil borings should be located to investigate soil and groundwater
contamination which has been documented. Cross sections showing the location of soil
borings in relation to documented contamination should also be included within the work
plan.
If you have any comments or questions, please contact Mary Meays, REHS, of my staff
at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, ., M.P.H.
Health O eF.,
r
L.aurie A.
