Existing Nestle Warehouse
4343 East Freemont Street
' Stockton, California
Project Nos. 2E-940917 and 2G-941101
Page 3
3.2 Field Exploration
3.2.1 Geotechnical Engineering Exploration and Analysis
' Giles proposes to drill twenty-five (25) test borings, which will be used strictly for
geotechnical purposes, unless unanticipated odors or discolorations are encountered within the
' recovered soil samples. These twenty-five (25) test borings will be drilled as follows:
Site Area Number of Borings Depth (ft.)
' Southern Pavement 4 10
South Warehouse 5 10 to 15
Middle Warehouse 4 10 to 15
North Warehouse 2 10
North Pavement 4 10
Western Property Line 6 10
Soil samples will be taken from these borings at 21h foot intervals to a depth of 10 feet
' and at 5 foot intervals thereafter using the standard penetration test (SPT) sampler as well as 2.5
inch diameter brass ring samplers in accordance with ASTM D-1586 and ASTM D-3550,
' respectively. These samples will be placed in clean 8 ounce soil jars to be returned to the Giles
laboratory for classification by a soils engineer and detailed laboratory testing. Following
completion of drilling, all test borings will be completely grouted using a cement bentonite
' grout. This grout will consist of 1 bag of Portland Cement mixed with 5 to 10 gallons of
potable water and 5 percent powdered bentonite by volume. Test borings drilled within the
interior of the structure as well as within existing pavements will then be backfilled to within
' 1± foot of existing ground surface using clean fill material followed by placement of a 1 foot
thick concrete cap. Soil borings drilled within the unpaved exterior portion of the site will be
grouted to within 3 feet of the surface followed by placement by 3 feet of clean fill material.
