Mr. Michael J. Infurna Jr.
December 9, 2005
Page 2
SCOPE OF WORK
SECOR proposes the following scope of work to evaluate the former location for potential
impacts:
Task 1 Mark locations of known underground utilities and contact Underground
Service Alert to mark various agency sub surface utilities. Prepare site
specific health and safety plan.
Task 2 Hand auger four borings to a depth of approximately five feet below ground
surface (bgs). Collect up to two soil samples per boring at the approximate
depths of two and five feet bgs. Analyze samples for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons
quantified as diesel (TPHd) and as motor oil (TPHmo), benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), and MTBE at a state-certified
analytical laboratory.
Task 3 Prepare a summary report which will include sampling methods and handling
procedures, a table of results, analytical lab reports, a map of final soil
sample locations, a discussion of the results, and conclusions and
recommendations.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
Following clearance of subsurface utilities, the four borings will be hand augered to depths
of five feet bgs with a clean hand auger, which will be decontaminated between boring
locations. Auger cuttings and decon-fluids will be containerized in DOT-rated drums and
retained onsite for appropriate disposal based on analytical results. Discrete in-place soil
samples will be collected in new brass sample sleeves with a clean impact sampler at the
depths of two and five feet bgs.
The samples will be field screened with a photoionizing detector (PID) and recorded on field
forms. The samples sleeves will be immediately covered with Teflon sheets and plastic end
caps, labeled, recorded on a chain-of-custody form, and placed into a cooler with ice for
transport under chain of custody protocol to a state-certified analytical laboratory. A
minimum of one selected sample per boring will be analyzed in accordance with the
following analytical program:
• TPHg, BTEX, and MTBE with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Methods 8015M/8020, and
r . TPHd and TPHmo with EPA Method 8015M.
1`•i The results of the investigation will be summarized in a brief letter report including a tabular
listing of sample identification numbers and sample depths, analytical data and PID
readings, copies of the laboratory analytical reports and chain of custody forms, and a map
of the actual sample locations. The report will describe the sampling methods utilized, the
f sample handling procedures, and a narrative describing the sample results. The report will
lAPG&E\PM\work plan PZ Il.doc
I
