CHRONOLOGY
Ace Tomato Company Incorporated
Page 2
07/09/04 The EHD approves work plan dated June 28, 2004, for the advancement of
four borings.
10/20/04 Advancement of four soil borings and collection of eight soil samples and
four groundwater samples for analysis of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene,
total xylenes (BTEX); TPH-g; total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel
(TPH-d); MTBE, di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether
(ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), TBA, methanol, ethanol,
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), and 1,2-dibromo ethane (EDB).
12/21/04 Date of Preliminary Soil and Groundwater Site Assessment report. Only
soil sample, B-2-7@ 36', contained detected concentrations of TPH-d at
1.1 mg/kg. All other soil results were reported as non-detect. Of the four
groundwater samples collected and analyzed: TPH-d was detected in
boreholes B-1 at 64 micrograms per liter (pg/L), B-2 at 79 gg/L, and B-4
at 62 p.g/L; TPH-g was detected in boreholes B-2 at 270 pg/L and B-3 at
65 pg/L; and ethanol was detected in boreholes B-2 at 43 gg/L and B-3 at
6.3 µg/L. All other groundwater results were reported as non-detect.
3/16/05 The EHD sent a letter directing the analytical laboratory, Kiff Analytical
LLC, review the sample chromatographic patterns for method 8015B to
determine whether the sample patterns matched fuel chromatographic
patterns other than TPH-g and TPH-d standards, and review sample
chromatograms from the analysis by method 8260B for possible
correlations with the discrete peaks found during the sample analysis by
method 8015B.
7/17/06 Kiff Analytical LLC responded that the chromatographic pattern by
method 8015B for soil sample B-2-7@ 36' did not exhibit a typical TPH-d
pattern and since the hydrocarbons appeared at a higher boiling point
range, suggested the hydrocarbons may be from lubricating oil. Kiff
Analytical LLC stated that the chromatographic patterns by method 8015B
for groundwater samples collected from boreholes B-1, B-2, and B-4 did
not exhibit typical TPH-d patterns; based on the chromatograms by
method 826013, each of the three groundwater samples contained a single
peak, tentatively identified as dodecane. Kiff Analytical LLC also stated
that the chromatographic patterns by method 8015B for groundwater
samples collected from boreholes B-2 and B-3 did not exhibit typical
TPH-g patterns and instead were identified as discreet peaks for
chloroform. The laboratory reported chloroform at 260 pg/L in
groundwater samples collected from borehole B-2, and 50 µg/L in
groundwater samples collected from borehole B-3.
