Mr. M. Phillip Cardoza AUG 3 1 T-20
Cardoza Properties
May 15, 1990 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
File: J-2062-1 PERMIT/S7," tS
Page 2
The attached Plate No . 1 illustrate the locations of our
subsurface borings.
A total of five (5) soil samples were retrieved, sealed, stored
under refrigeration, and delivered to Brown & Caldwell Analytical
(BCA) Laboratory in Emeryville for chemical testing.
The results of BCA's analysis are presented in the attached
analytical report. The following Table No. 1 describes the
location and depth of soil samples.
Table No. 1
Location and Depth of Samples
BCA DCM/loyal Boring Depth Below
Log No. Sample No. No. Existing Grade (ft. )
03-801-1 2-3 c B-2 6. 0 - 6. 5
03-801-2 2-3 b B-2 5. 5 - 6. 0
03-801-3 4-4 B-4 11. 0 - 11. 5
03-801-4 5-1 B-5 6. 0 - 6. 5
03-801-5 6-1 B-6 6 . 0 - 6. 5
03-801-6 7-1 B-7 6. 0 - 6. 5
At the time of our subsurface drilling, we detected (smelled) no
evidence of gasoline within soils or groundwater at boring
locations B-1, B-2 or B-3 (drilled to maximum depths of 21. 5
feet) . Soil samples were taken at B-2 at a depth of 5.5 to 6. 5
feet (this boring location is the most distant from the site of
the pipeline break ) for chemical testing in order to provide a
quality control check on the laboratory. As can be seen from the
BCA analytical report, all constitutes of gasoline were below
detection limits for this sample. At boring location B-4 we
detected no evidence of gasoline within soils in the upper 9 feet
of the boring. However, when we first encountered groundwater at
about 9 feet we detected gasoline within the groundwater. Boring
B-4 was then terminated at a depth of 11. 5 feet and a saturated
soil sample retrieved below the water table for chemical testing
at a depth of 11. 0 to 11. 5 feet. Results of testing on this
sample indicate trace levels of Ethylbenzene (0. 1 mg/kg) and
Total Xylene Isomers (0. 5 mg/kg) with all other constituents
below detection limits. Borings B-5, B-6 and B-7 were then
drilled between B-4 and the pipeline break site. These borings
were drilled to maximum depths of 6. 5 feet to stay above ground-
water with soil samples retrieved from each boring at a depth of
6. 0 to 6. 5 feet.
DCM/1oVol Engineering
