Neighborhood C RAW Health and Safety Plan <br /> March 20,2007,Revised July 3,2007 <br /> Page 3 <br /> Field vehicles shall park in an area that is a safe distance from operating equipment and vehicle traffic <br /> with the location approved by the Site Safety Officer. Care must be given when approaching heavy <br /> equipment. Personnel on foot should approach from a direction facing the operator and not a blind side. <br /> Eye-to-eye contact should be made before proceeding within the working limits of the operator and their <br /> heavy equipment. <br /> 2.6 UNDERGROUND UTILITIES <br /> The contractor responsible for the soil removal will contact Underground Service Alert at least two <br /> working days prior to excavation activities. The approximate location of underground utilities shall be <br /> marked on the existing ground surface. A minimum of 3 feet clearance shall be given to marked utilities. <br /> If excavation near utilities is required, hand excavation and probing shall be performed in 6-inch intervals <br /> prior to excavation activities. <br /> 3.0 PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br /> 3.1 TRIP AND SLIP PROTECTION <br /> Good housekeeping shall be maintained at the Site to prevent trip and slip hazards. For this Site, <br /> hazards may include uneven ground, construction equipment, and hoses. Equipment not in use will <br /> be stored in a manner to minimize hazards(ie. coiling loose hoses,lines,etc.). <br /> 3.2 HEAT STRESS <br /> Heat stress will be a hazard during hot weather and will be intensified when personnel are in certain <br /> types of protective clothing. To prevent heat stress, personnel will be required to take breaks as needed, <br /> and consume adequate quantities of liquid. This project will take place during the late summer <br /> months, when temperatures can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Typical weather conditions for the <br /> area in late August and September are mid 90s during the day and low 60s at night. Very little <br /> shade is available and average relative humidity is generally less than 40%. Care will be taken to <br /> minimize sun exposure(hardhats) and prevent dehydration. <br /> 4.0 BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS <br /> 4.1 STINGING INSECTS <br /> Care should be exercised to avoid bees,yellow jackets, or other stinging or biting insects. <br /> 4.2 ANIMAL <br /> High-topped boots should be worn when working in tall grass to protect against snakebite. <br /> 4.3 PLANT <br /> Poison oak and poison ivy should be avoided when present on the site. If contact is made with poison oak <br /> or poison ivy wash the contact area thoroughly with soap and water as soon as possible after contact <br /> occurs. <br /> 5.0 CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br /> As stated on the attached MSDS (Attachment A), Dieldrin is a colorless to light tan solid with a <br /> mild odor. The primary routes of potential human exposure for dieldrin are ingestion, inhalation, <br /> and dermal contact. Dieldrin is considered a persistent bioaccumulative toxic substance by the <br />
