i
C
2.0
HISTORY
Li WCFS was retained to provide engineering services for the removal of one 1,000-gallon diesel
underground storage tank (UST) at the KJAX radio transmitter. The UST was installed in 1964
and.was removed on November 12, 1993. During the tank excavation, five soil samples were
collected from beneath the tank beneath the
piping, and the excavation stockpile. Inspection
of the tank at the time of removal and laboratory analysis of the soil samples collected from
beneath the tank indicated that soil impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons was present.
r Detectable levels of total petroleum hydrocarbon as diesel were found at 9,000 ppm at at depth
!a of 11.4 feet beneath the bottom of the UST (17.9 feet below ground surface).
The presence of contaminants at KJAX exceed the allowable limits set forth in the State of
California Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations and the Leaking Underground Fuel Tank
L Guidelines which apply to the KJAX site. The San Joaquin County Public Health Services
indicated that the UST cannot be recommended for final closure without further investigatin to
determine the full extent of the soil contamination.
E
i{ h
`Ge
f
f
8054 cA8054Ucjax.gap 2
