INVESTIGATIONWORK PLAN, CON'I'IGROUPCOMNANiES, INC., 9504 S. HARLAN ROAD,
1REWC11 CAMP,SAN J011 Q UIN COUNTY
We have reviewed the IS January 2001 Site Investigation Work Plan(Work Plan)submitted by Haley&
Aldrich, Inc, for the ContiGroup Companies, Inc. (CGCI)French Camp Grain Elevator facility (site). Our
25 August 2000 letter had the following comments which are not addressed in the Work Plan:
1. Several of the proposed wells will be installed in deeper water-bearing units. Monitoring wells
installed in deoper water-bearing units without isolating upper zones may act as a pollution conduit
between the zones. CGCi needs to isolate wells installed in deeper units from the more shallow water-
bearing units by completing the wells with outer conductor casing(s) (dual completion wells). CG0
needs to submit proposed monitoring well constriction details for the duct completion wells prior to
beginning this field investigation.
2. Since cone penciromolcr test (CPT)data have not been collected near the proposed wells, CGCI nccds
to obtain continuous core samples from 10 feet above the top to 10 feet below the proposed bottom of
the well screen interval. Additionally, the zone where the conductor casing is set will need to he
continuously coed about three feet above to no more than two feet below the clay/sand interface.
3. CGCI d id not submit a schedule to complete the work outlined in the Work Plan.
The work plan is hereby approved on the condition that Comment Nos. 1 nod 2 are addressed prior to
beginning any field work. By 25 May 2001,please submit a site assessment report for the work proposed in
the Work Plan prepared in general accordance with the attached Items To Be Included In A Site As.rarsment
Report, Additionally,by 29,Tune 2001,please submit an interim remedial action plan for soil and
groundwater cleanup. In the future, work plans for investigation need to include a schedule for completing
the proposed work. Notify its at least three working days prior to beginning any field investigation,
if you have any questions rogarding this project, you may call me at(916)255-3077.
lY)M- 1. ..0, CII
Assn ate Engineering Ge tlogist
LnOosurc
cc: Mr. Jeff'Wong, San Joaquin County Health Departmcnt, Stockton
Ms. Linda Buff, huff&huff, LaGrange, Illinois
Mr.Jue Weidmann,Haley&Aldrich,Inc., San Diego
California Efn iraffineittal Protection,4gency
ped Mevyrled Paye,
