The EHD agreed with the recommendation and
requested that groundwater samples from your site be analyzed for metals and the results
evaluated and compared with nearby contaminated UST sites currently using, or conducting
bench scale tests for, ozone infusion.
ATC reviewed data from four contaminated UST sites located within one mile of the subject
property that have either conducted ozone infusion bench scale testing, are currently
conducting ozone infusion for remediation or have completed preliminary analysis of soil and
groundwater for metals evaluation. The four sites' geology and contaminant sources and
concentrations, along with published industry research on behavior and reactions of metals
in the subsurface, were compared with the Eggiman site data. ATC concludes that a work
plan to conduct ozone infusion pilot testing at the Eggiman property should be prepared. An
insitu pilot test, conducted with the appropriate monitoring and contingency plans in place,
would provide essential site specific data for final evaluation of the applicability of using
ozone infusion to remediate the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at this site.
The EHD agrees with this conclusion and directs submittal of a work plan for conducting an
insitu ozone infusion pilot test. The work plan is due for submittal to the EHD no later than
December 18, 2009.
