lie San Joaquin Motor Pool Facility Health and Safety Plan <br /> Decontamination Zone: An equipment decontamination area must be established for <br /> each exclusion zone It may be part of the exclusion zone, outside of the zone, or both <br /> Equipment that must be decontaminated before being reused in an exclusion zone, may <br /> be decontaminated in the decontamination zone <br /> Heavy equipment, will be decontaminated in a relatively uncontaminated area in a <br /> contamination reduction zone before leaving the controlled area Protective equipment <br /> worn in exclusion zones must also be worn in equipment decontamination areas <br /> One or more areas shall be designated for decontamination of personnel because <br /> personnel decontamination will be required before rest breaks, lunch, leaving the site at <br /> the end of the work shift and entering the support zone to coordinate activities with other <br /> personnel <br /> Support Zone: A support zone is a relatively clean area where support equipment and <br /> facilities are located The support zone is best if stationed upwind of the exclusion or <br /> disturbance area(s) <br /> 5.3 Levels of Protection <br /> The level of protection while performing tasks at the site will be dependent upon known <br /> and/or suspected contaminants to be encountered during the progress of the works The <br /> level of protection, and any upgrading or downgrading, will be determined by the SHSC <br /> Generally, tasks of soil sampling at fuel dispensing facilities can be accomplished at a D <br /> level of protection The following is a list of personal protective clothing and equipment <br /> for field personnel working at level D <br /> • Coveralls (optional) <br /> • Work gloves for equipment operators <br /> • Latex gloves for sampling personnel <br /> • Boots, leather or chemical-resistant, steel toe and shank <br /> • Safety glasses (available for use) <br /> • Hard hat <br /> • Full-face air-purifying respirators (available for use) <br /> • Hearing protection (available: for use) <br /> The following is a list of personal protective clothing and equipment for field personnel <br /> working at an upgraded level C <br /> • Full-face, air-purifying, cartridge-equipped respirator (OSHA/NIOSH <br /> approved) - with organic chemical cartridges <br /> • Disposable Tyvek coveralls <br /> 7 <br />
