1 1 I <br /> San Joaquin Motor Pool Facility Health and Safety Plan <br />� � • e r chemical Gloves (outer), c emica resistant <br /> • Gloves (inner), chemical-resistant <br /> Safety glasses (available for use) <br /> • Boots chemical-resistant, steel toe and shank <br /> I • Hearing protection(available for use) <br /> • Booties (outer), chemical-resistant, disposable (optional) <br /> • Hard hat/face shield (optional) <br /> 5.4 Monitoring Requirements <br /> Levels of organic vapors in the breathing zone of all field personnel will be identified <br /> � <br /> while they are performing their tasks at the service station by utilizing a calibrated, direct <br /> reading, Photoionization Detector (PTD) instrument, such as a Gastech, OVA, or <br /> equivalent Should the SHSC deem necessary,the presence, and degree of benzene <br /> contamination in the breathing zone of personnel will be identified with Dracger <br /> Colonmetric Tubes An explosimeter will be used to identify any deficiency in oxygen in <br /> breathing zones and any potential for explosion in work areas <br /> Readings of these instruments will be utilized to define the level of protection field <br /> personnel will be required to work under With PID instrument readings in the breathing <br /> zone of personnel of up to 50 parts per million(ppm) or no change of color of the <br /> Draeger tubes (suggesting benzene is <1 ppm),personnel may work with level D personal <br /> protective clotlung and equipment If the PID readings in the breathing zone of personnel <br /> are consistently between 50 and 250 ppm, or there is only a slight color change of the <br /> Draeger tube, site activities will continue but with the protection upgraded to level C If <br /> PID readings are greater than 250 ppm or the Draeger tube has a distinct color change, the <br /> works will be stopped, and personnel will move upwind of the exclusion zone until the <br /> SHSC/HSM can assess the situation <br /> 5.5 Decontamination Requirements <br /> Personnel: All personnel leaving the active work area will be required to decontaminate <br /> personal protective clothing in the decontamination zone prior to leaving the site for <br /> breaks, lunch or end of work shift The following operations, appropriate to protection <br /> level, are to be accomplished for decontamination Wash boots and outer gloves in TSP <br /> and water, rinse and remove outer gloves Remove and bag Tyvex If cotton coveralls <br /> are used, bag and wash prior to reweaving <br /> If worn, remove respirator and wash in TSP and rinse in water Remove surgical gloves <br /> and dispose in a plastic trash bag Wash hands and face Take a shower and wash hair as <br /> soon as possible after leaving site <br /> 8 <br />
