1
ARCADIS Brian Taylor, P.G.
February 2, 2009
1
for representative sampling.ARCADIS will then activate the trigger and retrieve the
samples. Samples will be placed on ice and submitted to a State of California
certified laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation for analysis.
HydraSleeve®
The HydraSleeve®groundwater sampler collects a whole water sample from a
specified interval and is suitable for a wide range of organics and inorganics. One or
more HydraSleeve®are placed within the screened interval of the monitoring well,
and a period of time is allocated for the well to re-equilibrate. Hours to months later,
the sealed HydraSleeve®is pulled upward, which enables water to enter the check
valve into the sample sleeve,The HydraSleeve®collects a sample with minimal
drawdown, agitation and displacement of the water column. HydraSleeve®samplers
consist of three basic components: a reusable weight; a long, flexible, lay-flat sample
sleeve; and a self-sealing valve.
Once the sampler is full, the one-way reed valve collapses, preventing non-
representative water from entering. The bottom of the flexible tube is sealed and the
weight is attached to it. Following retrieval from the well, the sample is opened by
using the discharge tube provided by the manufacturer. The tube is pushed into the
sleeve, and the sample is decanted to the glassware for shipment to the analytical
laboratory.
Sampling event
Using the HydraSleeve®technology, ARCADIS will place a HydraSleeve®across
the mid-point of the well screen interval. The well will then be allowed to equilibrate
for 72 hours prior to collecting the sample. ARCADIS will then retrieve the
HydraSleeve®and decanted the water using the manufacturer supplied discharge
tube to laboratory supplied glassware, placed on ice, and submitted to a State of
California certified laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation for analysis.
Grab Groundwater(No Purge)
Grab groundwater sampling utilizes a disposable polyethylene bailer to retrieve a
groundwater sample. The bailer is lowered into the monitoring well and submerged
into the water column. Once the bailer is filled with water a gravity driven check valve
at the bottom of the bailer closes to contain the water sample. The bailer is then
retrieved and the water is decanted into the sample containers.
1
Page:
3/5
fypp.qyyWp»,npGgk'NJfiNEYA0M1WI6t1Y RaWe,dIMWUFPWNPP I,ryMnlMkn`RAP ImOIemmWEon Ray1N91P1A We
i
