hq KLEItiFELDER
r
=> The retention basin was reportedly installed approximately a year ago (likely
soon after Sierra's report was issued).
=> The smaller depression (basin?) was reportedly excavated two or three years
ago. However, please note that that depression was not noted in Sierra's report.
The drums which were located to the southwest of the garage, were believed to
contain petroleum products and were hauled offsite to an unknown location.
Mr. McMillan mentioned a "farmer's dump" that at one time existed
approximately 100 yards north of a pole mounted transformer and near an area
of small soil piles. Mr. McMillan indicated that the dump was near the southern
site boundary. He further stated that miscellaneous farm material which had
been dumped and was later excavated and hauled off to an unknown location.
The dump was approximately 100 feet by 40 feet in area and was excavated to
an unknown depth.
4.2.3 Sampling Activities
Due to the approximately 3 foot thick layer of imported fill and the presence of the retention pond,
hand auger sampling of the soil in the gravel pit area and the disced field was not practical.
Therefore, the scope of work was modified in the field.
As a part of the field assessment, a total of seven (7) soil borings were advanced, five (5) in the
areas of the orchard (SBI-0.5 through SB5-0.5) and two (2) in the area of the omhard(B1-5 and
B2-5). See Plate 2 for the approximate boring locations. -5+W""-6.AwR-A(Iz k- '
The borings were advanced using a hand auger. Soil samples were collected within the orchard
at depths of six inches to one foot below ground surface (bgs). Soil samples were obtained by
slide hammering a 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long stainless steel tube into the soil. The stainless
steel tube was then removed from the boring and sealed with Teflon® sheeting and plastic end
caps. The hand auger and slide hammer sampler were decontaminated between samples with a
Liquinox° / water wash and a distilled water rinse. These shallow borings were backfilled with
the cuttings generated during sampling. Soil samples collected in the gravel pit area were hand
augered to a depth of five feet below ground surface (bgs) and sampled using the slide hammer
with the method previously outlined. The five foot borings were backfilled to two feet from the
surface with cement, with the remainder being backfilled with the cuttings generated during
sampling, in accordance with PHS/EHD guidelines.
Kleinfelder collected a total of seven(7) soil samples for chemical analysis from the borings.
The soil borings were closed in accordance with the protocol described in Attachment A.
20-4202-01.P02/2018R669 Page 7 of 14
_
0 1998.Kleinfelder,Inc.
