1
S ECOR
Ms Mary Schulz
June 3, 2004
Page 2
copy of the site-specific HASP will be presented to all SECOR field personnel and their
subcontractors.
Task 2—Geophysical Survey
A geophysical survey will be conducted in the parking lot surrounding the Pizza Hut building.
Geophysical methods may include ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic (EM)
methods to identify buried metallic objects such as USTs. The proposed fee for the geophysical
survey assumes that the USTs will be identified within a study area not larger than 150 feet by 150
feet. The time required to conduct the survey is estimated at one day in the field.
Task 3-- Geoprobe Assessment
SECOR proposes to collect soil and groundwater at the subject property utilizing Geoprobe direct-
push technology. According to information obtained from local drillers familiar with the subject
property vicinity, groundwater is expected to be present at approximately 20 feet below ground
surface (bgs) and flow to the north. SECOR proposes to install a total of three soil borings at the
subject property. The exact boring locations will be determined following the geophysical survey and
the possible identification of the UST locations. If the locations of the USTs cannot be determined in
Task 2, the borings will be located based on gradient, access, and probable source area orientation.
SECOR will advance each Geoprobe boring to a maximum depth of 25 bgs, the depth of first-
encountered groundwater, or the depth of Geoprobe refusal, whichever comes first. Soil samples
will be continuously collected at 4-foot intervals, until completion of the boring, and logged using the
Unified Soil Classification System. Soil recovered from each boring will be field screened in one-foot
increments for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) utilizing a photo-ionization detector (PID) and
characterized using visual observations. The soil sample exhibiting the highest field screening VOC
concentration from each Geoprobe boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis. If field screening
does not identify potential environmental impacts to soil, the deepest unsaturated soil sample will be
submitted for analysis. Proper decontamination methods will be implemented during sample
collection. If groundwater is encountered, one grab groundwater sample will be collected from each
Geoprobe boring for laboratory analysis. If groundwater is not encountered, both the highest field
screening VOC concentration and the deepest unsaturated sample will be submitted for laboratory
analysis.
Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for the presence of gasoline and diesel-range total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-GRO and DRO) according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(USEPA) Method 8015M. A total of two samples per boring will be submitted for analysis.
Laboratory analyses will be conducted on a 24-hour turnaround.
If detectable concentrations of TPH are reported in any of the soil and/or groundwater samples, then
any or all of the following additional analyses will be performed: VOCs according to USEPA Method
8260, semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) according to USEPA Method 8270, and total lead
by USEPA Method 6000/7000. Costs for these additional analyses are not included in this proposal.
To the extent possible, SECOR will attempt to limit investigation-derived wastes during this
investigation. However, a limited quantity of soil and fluids may be generated during equipment
decontamination, soil boring installation and groundwater sampling. If generated, these
investigation-derived wastes will be containerized until arrangements are made for proper disposal.
Upon receipt of analytical results, SECOR will contact GE Franchise Finance with recommendations
15g-04-149-LodiPHII SECOR International Incorporated
