DRAFT
QBR=s main warehouse building. Core calipers are sorted and stored by part
number in the Caliper Core Storage Yard (see Figure 1), located in QBR=s
Manufacturing Yard. The inspected and sorted calipers are stored in covered racks
in storage bins (i.e., 55 -gallon metal drums staged horizontally in the storage racks)
until scheduled for assembly and packaging.
The remaining manufacturing, packaging and storage activities for processing of the
core and new calipers are conducted inside QBR=s main manufacturing and
warehousing building, where there will be no direct or indirect exposure to
stormwater or surface drainage. New caliper components typically go directly to the
caliper assembly area, where the units are assembled, air tested, packaged and
stored as finished product.
Core caliper units are first dis-assembled and drained of residual brake fluids. The
recovered caliper components are washed in the Caliper Division=s water-based
Parts Washer. The washwater from the Caliper Parts Washer is stored in 55 -gallon
drums inside the main manufacturing warehouse and managed as a RCRA
hazardous wastes
The cleaned caliper housings are bead -blasted, using metal shot, inspected then
treated with a rust inhibitor. The surface of the smaller caliper components are
prepared for painting by a rotary tumbler and/or by bead blasting using garnet media.
The cleaned and treated caliper components typically go to the caliper assembly
area, where the units are assembled, air tested, packaged and stored as finished
product.
1.5.2: Materials and Waste Management
A description of the chemical materials used at QBR, and regulated wastes
generated by QBR, is provided in the facility=s Hazardous Materials Management
Plan and Inventory (see Section 5: Appendisces). Incoming chemical materials are
stored either inside the main manufacturing building or are stored in the
Manufacturing Yard undercover, on a bermed concrete pad equipped with
secondary containment.
The type of wastes generated at QBR include the following:
C:\TEMP\SMPREV2.doc Section 1-12
