Characterization. The objective of the Site Characterization is to define the nature and <br /> extent of contamination, evaluate the alternatives to the extent necessary to select a <br /> remedy appropriate for the Site and presents the following: <br /> 5.5.1 The Site History and Site background and the physical setting. At a <br /> minimum, the following information is required: <br /> 5.5.1.1 A map of the Site, and if they exist, aerial photographs and blueprints <br /> showing buildings and structures; <br /> 5.5.1 .2 A description of past disposal practices; <br /> 5.5.1.3 A list of all hazardous substances which were removed, disposed, <br /> discharged, spilled, treated, stored, transferred, transported, handled or used at the <br /> Site, and a description of their estimated volumes, concentrations, and characteristics; <br /> 5.5.1.4 A description of the characteristics of the hazardous substances at the <br /> Site; <br /> 5.5.1 .5 If applicable, a description of all current and past manufacturing <br /> processes which are or were related to each hazardous substance. <br /> 5.5.1.6 An analysis and summary of previous response actions including a <br /> summary of all existing data including air, soil, surface water, and groundwater data and <br /> the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures which were followed; <br /> 5.5.1 .7 Presentation of the Conceptual Site Model; <br /> 5.5.1.8 The scope and objectives of assessment; <br /> 5.5.1.9 A Preliminary identification of possible response actions and the data <br /> needed for the evaluation of alternatives; <br /> Page 12 of 25 <br />
