12 September 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0324
Sierra Lumber, 375 West Hazleton Avenue directiv south of the ro er
One 1,000-gallon UST was removed from the site in August 1988. Hydrocarbon impacted
soil was encountered during removal of the UST. Subsequently, one soil boring was
advanced at the site in June,1994. Hydrocarbons were detected in soil and a grab ground
water sample collected from the boring.
Three ground water monitoring wells were installed on the site in October 1994. Impacted
ground water has been detected in all sampling events continually since the monitoring wells
were installed. The reported ground water flow direction is typically west; however the most
recent flow direction calculated was toward the east. The lateral extent of the hydrocarbon-
impact on the site has not been determined at the site. No further information was available
from files on record with the PHS-EHD.
Due to the close'proximity of this site to the property, the potential for subsurface impact to
the property from the release of hydrocarbons is substantial.
2.4. REGIONAL GROUND WATER ELEVATION
The estimated depth to ground water at this property is approximately 10 to 15 feet below surface
grade(bsg), based on information from Lines of Equal Depth of Water Wells, Fall 1993 published
by the San Joaquin County FIood Control District and Water Conservation District. The PHS-EI-ID
uses the depth to ground water to calculate the potential impacted to ground water from both surface
and subsurface release of hazardous substances.
The prevailing ground water flow in west-central Stockton is generally to the northeast by east, but
may vary locally and seasonally. Ground water is considered to be of beneficial use and is used for
"domestic, industrial and commercial uses. The nearest surface water feature in the vicinity of the
i
property is the Mormon Slough, located immediately north of the property.
3.0. PROCEDURES
.3.1. PROBING AND SAMPLING'
On 20 August 1997 three soil probe borings (PBI through PB3) were advanced at the site. Probe
borings were advanced at the southern property boundary to determine if the unauthorized release
of hydrocarbons from the Sierra Lumber site had impacted the soil and ground water on the EF
'Mitchler site. The probe borings were advanced to depths of 25 feet bsg. Locations of the soil probe
:borings are illustrated on Figure 2.
Y
p ''Advanced Geor nvironmenw me +:
