Non -empty aerosol cans are characterized as a Universal Waste. On the day that the aerosol can is <br />discarded or is no longer useable that container becomes a waste. Depending on the previous content of an aerosol can, <br />that container may still contain residue of hazardous waste, however an aerosol container is exempted from regulation <br />once the container is punctured and emptied using a manufactured aerosol can recycling system. <br />1. Processing Aerosol Containers <br />1.1. Tools for processing aerosol cans <br />The following tools shall be used when processing aerosol cans: <br />• 30/55 Gallon, UN -Approved metal container or drum with a lid. <br />• Carbon filter, installed in the'/" bunghole on top of the metal container. <br />• Grounding strap (grounding puncturing equipment and container). <br />• Aerosol Can Recycling System (aerosol puncturing device) attached to the 2" bunghole <br />1.2. Sorting Aerosol Containers <br />1.2.1. Empty Containers <br />• Staff shall ensure that cans are empty prior to disposal (puncturing & recycling). <br />• DO NOT puncture aerosol cans with the following ingredients: <br />• Ethyl Ether <br />• Chlorinated Compounds <br />• Oven Cleaners <br />• Pesticides <br />• Freon and Foamers <br />• Cylinders <br />• Fire Extinguisher <br />• Dioxins <br />• Unknowns <br />1.3. Waste Aerosol Container & Labeling <br />1.3.1. Non -Punctured Aerosol Cans must be stored in a covered container, labeled with a Universal Waste Label. <br />• The Universal Waste Label must include all of the following information: <br />1. SHIPPER (Holt of California) <br />2. ADDRESS (1521 W Charter Way) <br />3. CITY, STATE, ZIP (Stockton, CA 95206) <br />4. CONTENTS (Empty Aerosol Cans) <br />5. ACCUMULATION START DATE (Empty Weekly) <br />1.4.
